Uber Takes Another Healthcare Milestone by Launching Same-Day Prescription Delivery

Earlier this week, Uber Health announced a new step in its mission to improve access to healthcare: same-day prescription delivery.

THE Press release describes: “For the first time, those using Uber Health, including healthcare providers and health plans, will be able to manage prescription delivery from any pharmacy in their service area through the same platform as ‘they already use to coordinate patient transport. This launch enables providers to offer a full range of care solutions that extend beyond the four walls of a clinic and are designed to improve patient experience and health outcomes.

This is a significant step forward for Uber Health, as well as millions of people who otherwise don’t have regular access to healthcare. Notably, home delivery of medications is a huge convenience factor for many, especially for older populations who have mobility or driving issues,

Plus, there’s an added benefit beyond mere convenience: medication adherence. A study by Express Scripts indicated that patients are more likely to take their medications regularly when delivered to their homes. The study noted “that Medicare Part D patients taking medications for the comorbid conditions of diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol who used a home delivery pharmacy had a 59% higher likelihood of being adherent in each class of therapy for home-delivered drugs versus retail.” This illustrates the true value that consumers find in home delivery.

Caitlin Donovan, Global Head of Uber Health, explains: “At Uber Health, we are building solutions that take into account the lessons we have learned from years spent in healthcare companies operating under contract-based care. the value. Too much time was spent making sure patients got to their follow-up appointments, picked up the correct prescriptions, or had access to food (…) That’s why I’m proud to add a solution scalable prescription delivery solution to our platform that allows healthcare teams to completely close the loop. From delivering prescriptions and NEMT (non-emergency medical transportation) today to delivering healthy food and groceries in the months ahead, Uber Health remains committed to delivering a more connected journey of care through a – unique and transparent shape.

The delivery initiative is powered by a partnership with ScriptDropa health technology company that connects pharmacies and delivery partners.

On a larger scale, Uber has worked hard to make progress in health care. Most importantly, the company is proud to help “improve patient care by enabling healthcare organizations to arrange rides and services on behalf of others using a centralized dashboard and easy to use or an API”. Similar to delivering prescriptions, for many getting to a doctor or hospital appointment is very difficult. In this regard, Uber provides an indispensable service, enabling patients to better connect with healthcare facilities.

The company is well placed to provide this service: according to the latest financial results released by Uber last month, gross bookings grew 19% year-on-year to $30.7 billion, and gross delivery bookings reached $14.3 billion. These numbers indicate the size and power of the Uber network, as well as the incredible infrastructure the company has built globally.

With its expansive resources and network, Uber Health has a huge opportunity to create meaningful impact and can provide easier access to healthcare for millions of people. Now, with same-day prescription delivery, the company is poised to succeed in its quest to improve last-mile healthcare delivery.
