Moose euthanized after wandering onto Connecticut airport, officers say
A moose that wandered onto the grounds of a significant airport in Connecticut on Friday was killed by environmental officers over security considerations.
The moose was seen strolling alongside a highway at Bradley International Airport, which induced concern for air vacationers and drivers alongside the close by Route 20 freeway, the state Division of Power and Environmental Safety (DEEP) mentioned in an announcement.
“When moose are roaming in high-traffic areas resembling airports and public roadways it may be a public security concern and each DEEP and airport workers are licensed to euthanize a moose if deemed essential,” DEEP spokesman James Fowler mentioned within the assertion.

Officers mentioned that whereas the moose had entered the airport grounds, the animal by no means made it by means of the perimeter fence surrounding the runways, and no flights had been affected.

It stays unclear why officers had been unable to move the animal to a secure location.

The DEEP estimates there are between 100-150 moose in Connecticut.

Airport officers consistently monitor threats from wildlife within the space and “have complete methods to make sure that the airport is ready to deal with any wildlife-related conditions,” airport spokeswoman Alisa Sisic advised the Related Press.

Bradley Worldwide Airport is New England’s second-largest airport, behind solely Logan in Boston, and serves Connecticut and western Massachusetts.
